About Knight's Quilt Shop

Knight's Sign

OUR HISTORY

As a quilter of 29 years, I knew someday I wanted to own my own business.  My vision began in 1992 when I cut a house plan out of Country Living magazine, knowing that this was what I wanted my quilt shop to look like.  With 11 years of banking background and a lot of determination I began to collect data to make my dream a reality. I wrote a 30-page business plan, obtained the funding I needed, and got all permits in hand to begin the construction of my quilt shop. The vision of my dream was crystal clear the whole time.  Every “speed bump” along the way made me more determined.

The land my shop is located on has been in my husband’s family since it was granted by King George in the 1600’s. Seen to fruition as a woman’s small business with a specific plan for success, it has been described as a “gem in the woods”.  My two sons, Ricky and John, have encouraged me and been involved in so many various ways over the twelve years I have been in business. They have truly been a source of strength to me.

The beautiful Cape Cod style shop is nestled approximately two hundred and fifty feet off  Route One in Cape Neddick, Maine, just six miles from Interstate 95 (York exit # 7). Parking is plentiful for bus tours and quilt guilds alike. We are handicapped accessible. As you open the door, a very cozy and inviting atmosphere exists, attracting visitors from abroad who are on bus tours along with local clientele and vacationers from around the United States.

Knight’s is the sole sponsor of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We are dedicated to collecting quilts for the overwhelming 400 children; ages newborn through 18 that enter the hospital each year.  Since 2006 Knight's has delivered over 1,000 quilts, each one made by our amazingly talented donors! Please go to the Charity Projects section of our website for more information. The generosity of donated quilts from my customers is truly overwhelming!

Knight's has been voted a Top 10 Shop in North America for 2009 by Quilt Sampler magazine! We were also featured in the September 2011 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine, where our Barbara Bush Children's Hospital charity was named their "Quilty Cause" for that issue.  Knight’s was also voted “Best of the Best in York County” for 8 years, and was chosen Editor’s Pick in the 2003 Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England.

We have on-staff quilt designers as well as teachers.  We bring a total of 75 years of quilting experience to our customers.

The goal of Knight’s is to continue to be the best we can be for our customers. We are committed to listening to our customers and welcome their ideas.  We have high hopes that this generation of quilters may pass on the history of quilt making and bring new ideas to us!

I am so very blessed with the wonderful, talented staff that works with me. I could not do it without them.  They and our many, many loyal customers have made Knight’s what it is today and will be, for many years to come!

You will remember our service long after you’ve made your purchase.

Knight’s is a friendly place where each new customer is treated like an old friend.

We all look forward to seeing you.
